2nd 6 Weeks

PRACTICE PLANNERS
Homework grades (Other Grades) for orchestra are for the students to practice at home and complete their Practice Planner for the week. Parents, please note the following details regarding the Planners:
  • You should see your child practicing consistently throughout the week.
  • Planners are due every Tuesday, with a parent signature verifying the minutes practiced.
  • Students must fill out a plan and the daily number of minutes in order to receive credit for their work.
  • The rubric and practice strategies are located in their binder in the Practice Planner section.

UNIFORM UPDATE
We have been in touch with the vendors for the orchestra spirit shirts and the formal uniforms for performing orchestras regarding the SLJH orders. At this time, the vendors have both expressed that the SLJH orders are delayed due to delayed shipment quantities on their end. While both companies have reassured us that they are shipping orders as fast as they get items in, we do not have an official date for these items.

Currently, the Fall Concert is designated as Formal Uniform. If a change is necessary because of the timing of these shipments, we will email parents about how that change will look.

ALL-REGION ORCHESTRA AUDITIONS - OCTOBER 16th
Students signed up for the All-Region Orchestra Auditions must attend the final events in preparation for the audition:
  • 9/28: Canvas Pass-Off #2 due
  • 10/1: Tempo Finalization (recommended)
  • 10/7: Violin Mock Auditions
  • 10/8: Viola and Cello Mock Auditions
  • 10/16: Auditions at Jordan High School

On the day of the auditions, students must bring their home instrument, instrument accessories (shoulder rests, rosin, roc stops, etc.), and folding music stand. Students may request to borrow a folding music stand from SLJH. As the auditions can be long, we recommend that students bring non-electronic books, homework, food (violin: lunch, viola/cello: snacks), and something to drink. Concessions will not be provided at JHS.

Results will be available by the end of the day, via QR code. Students should be prepared to be picked up promptly after their room has concluded the audition.

* SLJH will need 3 parent volunteers as room monitors. Details about these positions will be emailed at a later date. *

FALL CONCERT - OCTOBER 19th
The Fall Concert will be located at the Seven Lakes High School Performing Arts Center. Students should dress in informal attire.

Itinerary
  • 6:00 pm: FYO students enter PAC
  • 6:05 pm: FYO attendance on stage
  • 6:10-6:30 pm: FYO tuning and rehearsal
  • 6:15 pm: Performing Orchestra students uncase in the orchestra room and report to PAC

  • 6:30-6:45 pm: Audience seating (please remain in the lobby until this time)
  • 6:45-8:00 pm: Concert

The concert is a double major grade: performance and audience participation. Students are required to stay for the entire concert as an audience member. If you are unable to be at the concert, we kindly request that you are prompt in picking up your child at 8 pm.

Volunteer Opportunity: We are in need of volunteers for the concert! We are looking for one adult per orchestra. The volunteer would take attendance, remain with the group during the other performances, lead the group to the stage for their performance, and monitor student behavior. During your child's performance you would have a reserved seat in the front row. If you are interested, please sign up here: www.signupgenius.com/go/4090C45A8AD2CABF85-fall
